Miley Cyrus has come out in an emotional interview with Variety.
The hugely successful singer and actor is well known for her bold personality and for encouraging her fans to express themselves.
She has now opened up about her own sexuality and gender identity.
She confessed; “My whole life, I didn’t understand my own gender and my own s**uality,”. “My eyes started opening in the fifth or sixth grade. My first relationship in my life was with a chick.”
The 32-year-old revealed that she didn’t identify with the label “bi**xual”, claiming that she found it too constricting; “I always hated the word ‘bis**ual,’ because that’s even putting me in a box. I don’t ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl,”.
After going to an LGBTQ+ center while in Los Angeles, the singer discovered a label that worked for her.
She said: “I saw one human in particular who didn’t identify as male or female,”.
“Looking at them, they were both: beautiful and sexy and tough but vulnerable and feminine but masculine. And I related to that person more than I related to anyone in my life.”
“Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my s**uality more. I was like, ‘Oh — that’s why I don’t feel straight and I don’t feel gay. It’s because I’m not.’”
Miley identifies as pans**ual and claims her attraction to another person is more to do with them as an individual and less about their gender.
Her fans have shared their love and support for the singer after coming out.
