On Monday, Jason Momoa officially introduced his new girlfriend on Instagram, and since then, the couple has been the talk of the internet.
Fans have been speculating about their romance for a while, but this public reveal may still come as a surprise to some.
The 44-year-old actor first met 32-year-old actress Adria Arjona on the set of the 2021 Netflix film Sweet Girl while he was still married to Lisa Bonet. But there’s a twist!
Despite being separated for over five years, Momoa and Bonet remained legally married.
There was no overlap between his marriage and his relationship with Arjona. Momoa and Bonet officially announced their separation on October 7, 2020, and Bonet filed for divorce on January 8 of this year. Their divorce was settled amicably the next day.
Now that he can finally share his love publicly, Momoa celebrated with a carousel of photos from a recent trip to Japan.
In the post, he affectionately called Arjona “mi amor.” The photos show the couple looking cozy, especially in one where Arjona’s hand rests gently on Momoa’s arm as he holds her close. The chemistry between them is undeniable.
“Japan, you were a dream come true. You blew my mind,” Momoa wrote in the caption. “We are so grateful to everyone who welcomed us into their homes, allowing us to make memories with old and new friends alike on another incredible journey. Motorcycles and chaos on the road. Much love, J.”
Arjona married lawyer Edgardo Canales in 2019, but little is known about their breakup or if they officially divorced.
Though it may seem like Arjona is new to the Momoa family, she already has a close connection. Momoa’s stepdaughter, Zoë Kravitz, chose her to direct Blink Twice, a film starring Channing Tatum, which hits theaters on August 23.
The upcoming wedding of Kravitz and Tatum is expected to be a star-studded event, with Momoa, Bonet, and Lenny Kravitz likely in attendance.
Momoa and Bonet, who married in October 2017 after 13 years together, share two children: 16-year-old Lola and 15-year-old Nakoa-Wolf, whom they continue to raise privately.
It wasn’t until January 2022 that Momoa and Bonet publicly announced their split on Instagram. “We’ve all felt the pressure and changes of these transformative times,” their joint statement read.
“A revolution is unfolding, and our family is no exception… We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy, but so that we can go about our lives with dignity and honesty as we move forward.”
Now, both are embracing their new chapters, with Momoa openly showing his affection for Arjona as they move forward together.
