Dog abandoned in woods with broken leg now in good hands and on the road to recovery

An abandoned dog is always a heartbreaking sight: recently, an 8-month-old puppy was found alone in the woods, dumped with all his possessions and waiting for someone to come and show him love.

Thankfully, that poor dog is now in good hands after being taken in by a rescue, and is now looking for a new home.

The dog, now named Hank, was found by a good samaritan in the woods. He was sitting still, surrounded by his old toys, a dog bed and a bag of food. It was clear someone had abandoned him there.

According to a Facebook post, Hank was also found with a broken leg that had been broken for at least two weeks.

He also spent about two weeks on his own in the woods, and was underweight.

Hank was taken in by Humans and Animals United, a Florida-based nonprofit animal rescue organization, who prepared him for a surgery to fix his broken leg.

“Hank is in good spirits and the staff simply adores him,” Humans and Animals United wrote on Facebook.

After going through so much, it was clear that Hank was grateful to finally be in good hands.

“His tail started wagging once he knew he was being taken into the veterinary hospital. We cannot imagine why anyone would dump him with a broken leg,” they wrote.

Thankfully, despite the heartbreak he’s endured during his life, things are now looking up for Hank.

Rosa Fond, founder of Humans and Animals United, told The Dodo that adoption requests have been pouring in for Hank. He still has some recovery to do, but he will soon have a home.

“He’s gonna have a little bit of a journey to go through before he’s fully adoptable,” she told The Dodo. “But he’s safe now and he’ll never, ever be hurt again.”
